Graduate Students

Doctoral Education and Training: PhD program applicants in the School of Social Work for both the joint and standalone programs are welcome to apply with interest in working with Dr. Bornheimer in the STaR Lab. 

Dr. Bornheimer is accepting new students for Fall 2027 with specific focus on suicide prevention, serious mental illness, and psychosocial interventions. Due to the numerous requests to meet, Dr. Bornheimer will explore interest and potential fit via email to those who reach out (bornheim@umich.edu).

MSW Education and Training: There are no current openings for MSW students in the School of Social Work to work with Dr. Bornheimer in the STaR Lab as a research assistant.

Undergraduate Students

Each fall, Dr. Bornheimer interviews undergraduate students to join the lab for credit hours or paid work-study through UROP.

Aside from UROP, there are no current openings for undergraduate research assistants (including volunteers).

For students considering honors theses in a social science department, Dr. Bornheimer will consider co-mentoring students whose research interests align with the lab. Students will still need a primary mentor in their home department.

Staff

The lab is at capacity with staff until summer 2027.
